








Literature of the Renaissance

Renaissance literature is characterized by the adoption of a Humanist philosophy and the recovery of the classical literature of Antiquity, and benefited from the spread of printing in the latter part of the 15th century. Spenserian stanza is a fixed verse form invented by Edmund Spenser for his epic poem “The Faerie Queene.” Each stanza contains nine lines in total; the rhyme scheme of these lines is “ababbcbcc.” Vernacular refers to the native language or native dialect of a specific population, especially as distinguished from a literary, national, or standard variety of the language. Anthropocentric refers to believing human beings to be the central or most significant species on the planet, or the assessing reality through an exclusively human perspective.
