Novakain (prokain) is a local anesthetic belonging to the ester group. It blocks sodium channels of nerve fibers, inhibiting impulse conduction. It is used for dental, infiltration, and nerve blocks with onset time of 2-5 minutes and duration of 30-60 minutes
