Gown is put immediately after scrubbing. The sterile gown is put in order to permit the wearer to come within the sterile field and perform sterile technique during an operative procedure. Gown is considered sterile from waist level to chest level including sleeves up to 2 inches above elbow. Stockinette cuffs must be covered with sterile gloves. Sterile persons must have hands in sight all the time. The back of the gown is considered contaminated.
